We've been on a rampage lately signing up for all sorts of on-line services to host MP3s and promote our stuff. Blasting through the web like a tornado we've set up shop at several different locations and you can do us a huge favor by going there, visiting our site, rating us as "awesome!" or "kick ass!" or "my goldfish makes better music with his gills!" or something. Scratch that last one. That probably won't help.
What are the odds?
MP3.com is gone, but SoundClick seems to have taken over the roll. Set up pretty much the same, with the same format of charts, new uploads, and band profiles, SoundClick offers bands free web space, audio streams, and MP3 downloads. So we said, "Free!? S#!+ yeah, I'll sign up!" So I did. I typed in the name of my band - Sudden Death - and I got back "ERROR! Band name already taken!" Dammit. Must be some punk band or heavy metal band or something. That's happened before. But this time imagine my surprise when I found out that the Sudden Death who signed up for SoundClick is ANOTHER FUNNY RAPPER! The hell...??? What are the odds of that?! So I listened to his crap, and just as I suspected, it's crap. It's not funny. The beats are weak. The lyrics aren't well crafted. And to top it off he's a white guy who uses the N-word in his songs! This is a guy who could single-handedly ruin my reputaion if anybody confuses me with him. So I took this opportunity to trademark the name "Sudden Death". It'll be a few months before that comes through, so in the mean time I registered my band under the name "The Real Sudden Death". So that's where you have to go to hear my songs. Here's the link to my page: The Real Sudden Death. Go there and listen to my songs and maybe my stuff will make the charts! And while you're there do Shoebox a favor and look up Worm Quartet. He's there too.
Rapping With The Enemy
Clear Channel Entertainment. The multi-million dollar corporate conglomorate that has bought up half the radio stations and 75% of major concert venues in the United States has decided to throw us unsigned peons a bone. And we all know how much I like them bones. That and I'm not rich enough to protest them, so screw it. I signed up. The Clear Channel New Music Network is another site where bands can sign up and post some music and stuff. So I did... a long time ago. And just recently they managed to get their half-assed site running well enough to get my profile page up. The music still hasn't shown up, but hopefully soon. Here's my link: Sudden Death on Clear Channel. Apparently the "other" funny rapper Sudden Death hasn't heard about this yet, so I was able to keep the name.
The New MP3.com
MP3.com is dead and gone. They were bought by CNET, who owns download.com and all that has been rolled together into one big mess. I signed up. But being the mess that it is my stuff hasn't shown up yet. Hopefully they'll get off their C-Asses and get to work soon. I have a short attention span, and if my site doesn't work by this time next week I'm likely to forget about it altogether. And we know how much business they stand to lose if the hoards of Sudden Death fans don't go flocking to their site.
Are there others? If you know of any other music related (or comedy related) sites that you think we should have a presence on do drop me a line and let me know. I'll take just about any site, but not if I have to pay. I'm paying for enough stuff right now. MAN am I paying for stuff.
Hi! I'm the fake/crappy 'Sudden Death' that you mentioned here. I was just searching for my old soundclick page and found this post. And yeah I think I had actually found your soundclick page for 'the REAL sudden death' a few years ago as well and e-mailed you then, apologizing for the coincidental name-sharing mix-up thing. But I hadn't seen this post that had mentioned it before now, and I thought it was really funny. It's like we could have had this epic little beef that just never happened. Sigh.
So yeah, I still do think it's odd that we were both doing 'comedy rap' under the same name (although of course yours' being more professional, developed, and worth talking about than mine). My page was my first attempt at 'music' in high school. Looking back on it now, it was pretty bad. So again, I'm sorry for if there was any 'ruining of your reputation' with my whackness, although I'm sure it didn't make a difference in the end anyway. I mean who uses soundclick anymore? Pssht. As far as using the n-word goes, I guess my sense of irony was a little too non-PC, so apologies for the worries of that too.
I know we're so far removed from 2004 now that all of this doesn't matter in the least, but I just wanted to give you a HOLLA and let you know that I found this post and that I think it's really funny that there was a fleeting little mix up here that I discovered almost 6 years later. Internet is crazy.

Ha! There's a blast from the past. Nothing ever came of it. What little reputation I have has not been ruined, and I've dropped the name Sudden Death anyway, so it's a moot point now. Water under the bridge.
I think I gave up on the SoundClick page shortly after I signed up. I don't remember using it much. I may still have a page there but I haven't used it in years if it's still there.
And I want to apologize for being so harsh on you in the above news item. I really was just taken aback by the whole situation. I'm usually much more constructive with my criticisms. :)
